Popcru (Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union) said most of its workers are working in unpalatable conditions, which has worsened since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the reason it is requesting for an increase in the danger allowance of prison and health officials.
The union further said:
“Considering the dire conditions these officers find themselves in, their danger pay should be reviewed.”
Bheki Cele, Police Minister said – the pandemic is straining the already stretched resources of the police.
Richard Mamabolo from Popcru mentioned that they’ve been observant with the working conditions of its members.
He said:
“Members work under difficult and strenuous conditions,” he said.
