The outspoken Governor of Ekiti State,
Ayodele Fayose, has on Thursday been
warned by the Nigerian Army to stop
politicising the army and its military
operations.
The Army issued the warning via its official
twitter handle, @HQNigerianArmy, and
wrote; “Gov Ayodele Fayose should stop
politicizing the military [and] military OPs,
seek other avenues for your relevance. The
Army today is not corrupt.”
The Nigerian Army’s warning follows a
statement credited to the Ekiti State
governor on Wednesday, through his
spokesman, Lere Olayinka, who had said
that the United States “Country Report on
Terrorism 2016 proves that the military was
corrupt.
The statement credited to Fayose added;
“This report by the US Government has
further lent credence to earlier revelation by
the Transparency International that despite
President Muhammadu Buhari government’s
anti-corruption fight, corruption in the
military is weakening Nigeria’s efforts to
battle Boko Haram.”
